Electrical Engineering Internships: The Job Titles to Search
ยท Finch Team
If you're an electrical engineering student, the biggest internship list on GitHub gives you one section out of five. SimplifyJobs' Summer 2027 list sorts its roles into software engineering, product management, data science and AI, quantitative finance, and hardware engineering. Hardware is where most embedded, firmware and chip-design roles land, so start there. But EE roles go by so many titles that knowing them helps wherever you search.
Here's what Finch's public job board showed for electrical engineering.
How many are open
As of October 9, 2026, Finch's board had 253 open US internships and new-grad roles whose titles match electrical engineering. 34 of them came straight from the companies' own job boards; the rest came from public internship and new-grad lists. We count a role once per company and title, however many lists carry it.
Our title match counts embedded software and firmware roles, and a few roles from other fields slip in, like a cybersecurity internship with "controls" in its title. So 253 includes some roles that aren't electrical engineering.
Who has the most open roles
These are the companies with the most open roles, after we checked each of those roles by hand:
| Company | Open US roles for EE |
|---|---|
| RTX | 23 |
| Hewlett Packard Enterprise | 11 |
| Astera Labs | 10 |
| Rivian | 8 |
| Astranis | 7 |
| AeroVironment | 6 |
| General Dynamics Mission Systems | 6 |
| Qualcomm | 6 |
Tesla, Northrop Grumman and Amazon dropped off this table after the hand check. We couldn't open Tesla's postings to check them, most of Northrop Grumman's had come down by the time we checked, and most of Amazon's are copies of two software internships that ask for computer science, computer engineering, data science or information systems.
These counts move every day as roles open and close, so treat them as a snapshot of the board that day. For today's numbers, see Finch's electrical engineering page. The live page counts every role whose title matches and updates with each release, so its totals and companies differ from this hand-checked October 9 snapshot.
What the roles are actually called
Search only for "electrical engineer" and you'll miss most of these. On our board, EE roles came under a few kinds of titles:
- Embedded software and firmware. "Embedded Software Engineer", "Firmware Engineer", "Embedded Systems".
- Chip design and verification. "ASIC Design", "RTL Design", "SoC Design Verification", "Pre-Silicon Validation".
- Hardware and electronics design. "Hardware Engineer", "Electronics Design Engineer", "RF Hardware".
- Power electronics and controls. "Power Electronics Controls Engineer", "Automation & Controls Engineering".
- Test and validation. "Electrical Test Engineer", "Electrical Validation", "Silicon Validation", "RF Validation".
A few that were open on company job boards when we counted:
- SharkNinja: Spring 2027 Electrical Engineering Co-op (Needham, MA), posted October 8
- Freeform: FPGA Engineer, New Grad Summer 2027 (Los Angeles), posted October 7
- Heron Power: Intern, Power Electronics Controls Engineer (Scotts Valley), posted October 7
- Tenstorrent: Hardware Intern, Architecture, AI HW & System on a Chip (Austin, Boston, Fort Collins or Santa Clara), posted October 7
- Revel: Internship, Embedded Software Engineer (Los Angeles), posted October 6
- Arc Boat Company: Powertrain Electrical Engineer Intern and Electrical Integration Engineering Intern (Torrance, CA), posted October 6
- Atoms: Electrical Engineering Intern (San Francisco), posted October 5
If you need visa sponsorship
Some defense and space roles are open only to U.S. persons, so read each posting before you count on sponsorship.
Here's how many H-1B labor condition applications (LCAs) the U.S. Department of Labor certified in fiscal year 2025 (October 1, 2024 to September 30, 2025) for the companies in the table and list above that we've matched in that data:
| Company | Certified H-1B LCAs, FY2025 |
|---|---|
| Qualcomm | 2,242 |
| Rivian | 546 |
| Hewlett Packard Enterprise | 531 |
| RTX | 193 |
| Tenstorrent | 52 |
| Astera Labs | 50 |
| SharkNinja | 39 |
| Arc Boat Company | 7 |
| Heron Power | 6 |
An LCA is a step before an H-1B petition, not an approved visa. These counts cover every kind of job at the company, not just electrical engineering roles or internships. We haven't matched Astranis, AeroVironment, General Dynamics Mission Systems, Freeform, Revel or Atoms in that data yet, which doesn't mean they file none. Source: Department of Labor, Office of Foreign Labor Certification, LCA disclosure data for FY2025. Many of these companies have their own page on Finch, under companies hiring students, with their open roles and filings.
How to use this
Start with the kinds of roles above that match your coursework and projects, then search for those titles. Lead your resume with the lab or project work that matches: a PCB you designed, firmware you wrote, an FPGA project, a power or controls project. The company-board roles listed above were all posted between October 5 and October 8, so check often early in the season.
If you'd rather not search yourself, Finch picks 3 roles for your major every week and says why each one fits. It's free, and you can start with electrical engineering.
How we counted: open roles on Finch's public job board as of October 9, 2026, US locations only, whose titles match electrical engineering by the same rule as Finch's list for your major; one role per company and title. Sponsorship counts are FY2025 certified H-1B LCAs from the Department of Labor, matched to company names by Finch. SimplifyJobs' list categories checked on October 9, 2026.
