Industrial Engineering Internships: The Job Titles to Search

ยท Finch Team

Industrial engineering jobs are hard to search for. Very few roles say "industrial engineer" in the title. The same work shows up as supply chain, manufacturing, process, quality, operations and operations research. SimplifyJobs' Summer 2027 list, the biggest internship list on GitHub, has no section for any of it.

Here's what Finch's public job board showed for industrial engineering.

How many are open

As of October 9, 2026, Finch's board had 57 open US internships and new-grad roles whose titles match industrial engineering. 30 of them came straight from the companies' own job boards.

We match industrial engineering partly on the word "operations", which also catches some roles that aren't engineering at all, like operations jobs at service companies. So 57 includes some roles that aren't industrial engineering. The companies and roles we name below are ones we checked by hand. For today's numbers, see Finch's industrial engineering page. The live page counts every role whose title matches and updates with each release, so its totals and companies differ from this hand-checked October 9 snapshot.

The titles to search

On our board, industrial engineering roles came under these kinds of titles:

  • Supply chain and logistics. "Supply Chain Intern", "Supply Chain Engineering Intern", "Supply Chain Analytics Intern", "Reverse Logistics Co-op".
  • Manufacturing and process. "Manufacturing Engineering Intern", "Process Engineering Intern", "Production Planning Intern".
  • Operations engineering. "Operations Engineering Intern", "Operations Engineering Co-op", "Production Operations Internship".
  • Operations research and analytics. "Operations Research Analyst".
  • Quality. "Quality Engineering Intern".

Who has open roles

These are the companies with more than one matching role, after we checked each of those roles by hand:

Amca3
Anduril Industries2
Muon Space2

TikTok, Atoms, Freeform and Meta dropped off this table after the hand check. TikTok's two matches are product strategy and operations roles, and Atoms' operations intern doesn't say enough to call it industrial engineering. Freeform's three ask for other majors (mechanical, aerospace or manufacturing engineering, materials science or physics), and Meta's two ask for computer science, computer engineering or electrical engineering.

A few that were open on company job boards when we counted:

  • Arc Boat Company: Supply Chain Intern (Torrance, CA), posted October 6
  • Rocket Lab: Supply Chain Intern (Long Beach, CA), posted October 5
  • Atoms: Manufacturing Intern (San Francisco), posted October 5
  • Muon Space: Industrial Engineering Intern, Summer 2027 (San Jose, CA), posted October 3
  • Figure: Supply Chain Analytics Intern, Winter 2027 (San Jose, CA), posted October 2

If you need visa sponsorship

Some defense and space roles, like Anduril's and Rocket Lab's here, are open only to U.S. persons, so read each posting before you count on sponsorship.

Here's how many H-1B labor condition applications (LCAs) the U.S. Department of Labor certified in fiscal year 2025 (October 1, 2024 to September 30, 2025) for the companies in the table and list above that we've matched in that data:

An LCA is a step before an H-1B petition, not an approved visa. These counts cover every kind of job at the company, not just industrial engineering roles or internships. We haven't matched Amca, Anduril Industries or Atoms in that data yet, which doesn't mean they file none. Source: Department of Labor, Office of Foreign Labor Certification, LCA disclosure data for FY2025. Many of these companies have their own page on Finch, under companies hiring students, with their open roles and filings.

How to use this

Pick two or three of the title families above that match your coursework (a supply chain class, a lean or quality project, a simulation or optimization project) and search those titles each week. On your resume, name the method and the result, like "cut changeover time on a packaging line with SMED". That reads as industrial engineering to a recruiter, whatever the job title says.

If you'd rather not search yourself, Finch picks 3 roles for your major every week and says why each one fits. It's free, and you can start with industrial engineering.

How we counted: open roles on Finch's public job board as of October 9, 2026, US locations only, whose titles match industrial engineering by the same rule as Finch's list for your major; one role per company and title. Sponsorship counts are FY2025 certified H-1B LCAs from the Department of Labor, matched to company names by Finch. SimplifyJobs' list categories checked on October 9, 2026.
